Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson is perfect gift for math geek, war geek and computer geek. After reading this book I was seriously thinking about a career in cryptography.
Cryptonomicon is a very thick book, and it has three interesting stories to tell.
Lawrence Waterhouse is the second World War, the Allied cipher expert to solve the cipher by the Axis.
Jarhead Bobby Shaftoe participates in practice military action in Asia, Waterhouse practical implementation of ideas.
Located in present day story of Randy Waterhouse, grandson of the will of a very interesting business projects. The beginning of a very loose feel strongly eventually intertwine with the stories together.
I have read over thousand books and Cryptonomicon is my top 5. This is a surely welcome gift for any geeks but especially those who are intrested in computers and math. It is a huge and enjoyable read and costs under 10 $ in the Internet.
